He completed his PhD in neurology at the Federal University of São Paulo and postdoctoral studies in basic sciences at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis-TN, USA, from 2005 to 2008.
Following completion of his residency in neurology, he has worked with patients with myopathies and has a great interest in congenital myopathies, especially myotubular/centronuclear myopathy. He has many published papers on Brazilian cohort studies on this myopathy and has supervised PhD works in this area. He has also collaborated with several colleagues from international centers.
In clinics he is currently following many patients with centronuclear myopathy related to different genes and patients with mutations in the MTM1 gene in our outpatient clinic. We have developed a national collaborative study with a large cohort of patients with XLMTM1 aiming at publishing clinical and follow-up data from these cases.
