Dionne Moat qualified as a physiotherapist in 2003 and has worked across a diverse variety of healthcare settings before specialising in neurological rehabilitation after brain injury. After developing an interest in clinical research and a desire to improve evidence-based healthcare, she successfully completed an NIHR clinical academic internship in 2015 with the Brain and Movement (BAM) research group at Newcastle University.

Pursuing a growing interest in working both clinically and within a research setting, Dionne joined the JWMDRC in 2016 and delivers both clinical trials and clinical care to adults and children with neuromuscular disease, including patients with myotubular and centronuclear myopathy. She has a particular interest in the use of orthotics and measuring the impact of physiotherapy interventions and is involved in the training of clinical evaluators for clinical trials and has delivered neuromuscular teaching to undergraduate physiotherapy students. She is currently studying towards a Masters in Clinical Research and is leading on a pilot study to compare static night-time Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) with Contracture Control Devices (CCD’s) in the management of ankle contractures in ambulant boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
